PETALING JAYA: Syawal should be a month to celebrate brotherhood and fraternity, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
The month was also for celebrating victory in fighting against desires during Ramadan and also against cruelty and injustice.
“I, on behalf of my family and Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s leaders and grassroots, would like to wish Salam Aidilfitri to all Muslims in Malaysia and throughout the world,” he said in a statement yesterday.
DAP national chairman Karpal Singh said Hari Raya was a time for Muslims to extend forgiveness which could be a launching pad for better and cordial relationship among Malaysians irrespective of race or religion.
“We should resolve, in the spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri, to make greater efforts to once again get back to the position before May 13, 1969 when all races in the country had shown commendable resilience in forging unity despite our diversity,” he said.
DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang also wished all Muslims Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
He, however, urged those celebrating to think of Raja Petra Kamarudin and others, including the five Hindraf leaders, detained under the ISA whom he said should be released immediately.
