Kuala Lumpur: Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said the throwing of two bottles of molotov cocktails into her parents' home in Jalan Ipoh, here, by unknown attackers early Saturday, was intended to scare her and prevent her from carrying out her duties as an MP.
"Perhaps the action was due to revenge against me and my family after the media and blogs condemned and portrayed me as anti-Malay, anti-Islam and a racist.
"They spread lies about me before and after I was arrested under the Internal Security Act," she said at a news conference held at her parents' home in Taman Rainbow, Jalan Ipoh.
She said a police report had been lodged on the incident and called for immediate investigation so that those responsible could be dealt with under the law.
She hoped the police could also ensure her safety and her family's which had now come under threat. The news conference was also attended by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Information Chief Tian Chua, DAP Advisor Lim Kit Siang and a PAS representative.
Lim said the DAP would meet Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Seri Ismail Omar soonest possible over the safety of Kok and her family.
Kok's father, Kok Kim Tong, 74, said the molotov cocktail incident happened at about 3am when his son who was surfing the Internet saw a man on a motorcycle throwing something to the house.
"Upon checking, there were two molotov cocktails with one of them broken. Fortunately, if didn't explode.
"We also found a folded threatening note and lodged a police report at 4am," he said, adding that there were seven people in the house at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, Sentul District Police Chief, ACP Zakaria Pagan, when contacted, said police would immediately investigate to trace the individual involved in the life-threatening incident.
The case would be investigate under Section 503 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
