THE poor and needy have benefited in terms of food contribution and water bill rebates since the Penang Government took over the state administration six months ago.
Bukit Bendera MP Liew Chin Tong said the state had distributed rice to the poor, provided RM100 water bill rebates to families with a monthly income of less than RM1,500 and RM100 cash to the hard core poor.
“It is the state government’s wish to share its prosperity and wealth with the people. We hope to achieve this target by cutting down on unnecessary expenses within the state,” he said, adding that he hoped other states would also emulate Penang’s move.
He was speaking after presenting Hari Raya hampers to 120 residents from Kampung Tanjung Tokong on behalf of E&O Hotel and Giant Hypermarket yesterday.
The hampers were carefully decorated with green and yellow ribbons to depict the Hari Raya mood.
Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu, who was also present, said he hoped the hampers would enable the residents to prepare for the festive occasion.
